Everybody wants beautiful, soft skin, but where to start? With so many different products on the market, it’s easy to get lost or overwhelmed. That’s why I wrote this skincare guide for you to fall back on if you want a skincare routine, but don’t know where to start. This is my Evening Skincare Routine. Check out my Morning Skincare Routine here.
An ideal evening skincare routine contains 6 steps. With the evening skincare routine, your whole skincare routine should contain about 8-10 steps (steps, not products!). This might seem crazy, but believe me, with all the pollution and UV rays, you’re going to want to follow a similar routine. And if you’re still skeptical, Korea is known for elaborate skincare routines with at least 10 products and for beautiful skin…so there’s an obvious link there! I used to be skeptical myself for a really long time, but seeing my own skin transform after following this routine has convinced me otherwise!
Your skin is precious and you want to treat it that way, because it’s going to be the skin you’ll live in for the rest of your live! So without further ado, let’s get started.
Evening skincare routine
You’ve been running around all day and you might be wearing makeup as well. That along with the dirt and sweat needs to leave your face! I’m a big fan of double cleansing, because just using your face wash is not going to get rid of all the makeup. Personally, I’m a huge believer in oil cleansing – I massage an oil mix or jojoba oil into my skin and I wipe it off with a warm, soaked washcloth. Then to wash off the remnants, I use my Body Shop Vitamin E face wash. It’s supergentle, so great if you have sensitive skin!
I mentioned this in my morning skincare routine as well. After cleansing use a toner for your skin type. While different skin types require different ingredients, you never want to use toners with lots of alcohol in them. It’s just seriously drying and bad for your skin, don’t do it. My personal favourite is rose water! Rose water not only smells delicious, but it’s also great for a variety of skin types. It contains anti-inflammatory properties, so it’s great if you have acne-prone skin, but it also helps with dry, flaky skin. Best of all, you can often get it for a great price. This Organic White Rose toner by Alteya is $17.50 for a whopping 17oz (about 500ml) of product! That’s going to last you a long time and you can also use it on your body.

Night time is the ideal time to use a serum/ booster/ ampule or any other treatment specific to your skin needs, because your skin has the entire night to soak up all the good stuff. You’ll wake up with refreshed skin, while taking care of any issues you might have! If you have acne, you might want to use acne treatment and spot treatments. If you have lines or wrinkles, an anti-aging serum is great for this step and so on.
4. Face oils
I am obsessed with face oils! I explain a lot in this blogpost.
If it’s nourishing enough for your skin, you can use a face oil as a treatment instead of a serum/ booster/ ampule. You can also choose to add a few drops of face oil to your night cream in the last step to save time.
5. Eye cream
Eye cream, like sunscreen, is not something you should start with once the fine lines are already there. It’s never too early to start using it! The skin underneath your eyes contains very little oil glands, so it needs all the help it can get to remain firm and moisturized. Instead of buying a separate eye cream, I either use one of my oil mixes or almond oil as an eye cream. Castor oil is also a great option, which also helps with growing your lashes. Just be careful that you don’t put the oil in your eyes, if you apply it to your lashes. If you decide to go for the oil option, use cold pressed oil (mixes) like almond oil, jojoba, castor etc. (do not use pure essential oils!).
Lastly, moisturize and lock in all the good stuff with a nice night cream! Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar is not called that way without reason and it works for all skin types. They’re one of my favourite skincare brands!
My night time routine takes me 10 minutes, so in total it’s about 15 minutes a day. Honestly, that’s a small price to pay for the health of your skin ; ) Also, if you use your face oil as your eye cream or treatment, you’re saving a step and some money, which we all love right?!
